Image for representation purpose only.- Pic credit - Pixabay Key Highlights Shri Krishna, who was born in Mathura, spent the last few days of his life on earth in the Dwaraka region Krishna was unknowingly shot in the foot by a hunter named Jara The Bhalka Teerth region near Somnath in Gujarat is one of the holiest sites associated with Shri Krishna Shri Krishna, the ninth incarnation of Shri Vishnu, was born to Devki and Vasudev when they were held captive by Kansa, the tyrant ruler of Mathura. The divine powers aided Vasudev in his endeavour to secretly carry Krishna to Nanda's house where Yashoda had given birth to a girl child. This specific chapter from the ancient Indian texts is a fascinating incident that showcased the Leela (play) of the Almighty. To save Krishna from Kansa's wrath, Vasudev, exchanged the babies and brought the girl child to the prison. Thus, Krishna grew up away from his biological parents across the river Yamuna. He spent his childhood near Vrindavan and grew up with kids in Gokul. Shri Krishna's life is a fascinating learning experience. The ninth avatar of Shri Vishnu took birth in the human form and endured all the pain and sufferings. Nonetheless, he had divine powers to do the unthinkable. In this article, we will share an interesting piece of information with you. Shri Krishna, who spent the early days of his life in the central part of Bharat (modern-day Uttar Pradesh), moved to Dwaraka, in the extreme west. Subsequently, he became the Dwarakadheesh (or the King of Dwaraka). Years later, one day, when Krishna rested under a banyan tree, he was mistakenly shot in the foot by a hunter named Jara. This site is known as the Bhalka Teerth. It is about 250 kilometres from Dwaraka, near the famous Somnath Temple. After getting shot in the foot, Krishna limped to a cave on the banks of the river Hiranya. He breathed his last near the confluence of the Triveni Sangam (confluence of the rivers Hiranya, Kapila and Saraswati) and left for Nija Dham (heavenly abode). Krishna's cremation is believed to have taken place here, which is now known as Dehotsarg. There's a temple dedicated to Shri Krishna at the Bhalka Teerth site, and people perform Tarpana at the Triveni Sangam (to pay homage to their ancestors). Krishna's birthplace is known as Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi, but not many are aware of the Bhalka Teerth region, where Krishna apparently left his mortal body. This place is considered one of the most sacred sites in the Veraval region of Gujarat. Devotees visit this destination to pay tribute to Shri Krishna, the Lord who taught one and all the true meaning of Dharma.
