If you can believe it, there was a time when the word "nerd" was not very well known. And if you did know what a nerd was, you probably were a nerd yourself, because this title was only ascribed to those who fix their broken eyeglasses with scotch tape, had extensive knowledge of Star Trek, did well in school, AND had magical knowledge of rarely used words... like "nerd." Too many pens in the front pocket, all leaking. All making that Van Heusen shirt look a mess. But for the nerdy zodiac signs in astrology, this word was a way of life, and gave them an opportunity to express themselves. Then being a nerd suddenly seemed dangerous and sexy... minus the fresh clothes. Nerd took a leap out of outcast and was transformed into some form of fashion — sloppy, hipster, geeky, bookworm, loner, sadboy, poor little K-Rock girl. Being nerdy is about being smart, shy, scared and well informed on any given subject, including trivia of the most trivial kind. The one interesting thing about nerds is that our feelings for them are absolutely polarizing. You either love them, or you hate them. And that's how we become nerds — we either love the idea of being eternally locked into the hippy Shatner fantasy, or it's something we wouldn't touch with a six foot phaser.
