What Colour LED Light Do I Need? by Dr. Pen Australia

Until recently, you could only access light therapy through an appointment with a dermatologist or skincare clinic. Thankfully, there are now LED masks which offer the same benefits in the comfort of your own home. The Femvy LED mask uses this same technology in the shape of a mask as opposed to lying under the over-head light in a clinic. With our LED Mask there’s no need to visit the salon for a $300 light therapy session. We are so excited to share with you our new products, with the LED mask being the perfect companion to your microneedling treatments to assist with recovery through healing and further collagen and elastin production. If you're prone to acne, you will find comfort in the blue light which kills acne forming bacteria. LED light therapy penetrates the skin to a cellular level and causes different cellular reactions.

Benefits:

Firms skin

Reduces appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

Eliminates acne forming bacteria

Improves skin clarity

Calms skin irritations

Reduces hyperpigmentation and melasma

Increases production of collagen and elastin

The Femvy LED Mask is also different from other LED masks out there with 192 individual bulbs in each mask! There's also 7 different colours to choose from. Even when you go to a clinic for professional LED treatment you will usually only be exposed to red light for elastin and collagen production and blue light for acne and killing bacteria. The RevitaLight can change between 7 different colours. Orange/Yellow: Has a soothing effect on irritated skin. Combats redness and conditions like eczema and rosacea while boosting collagen production. Blue: Used in clinics as an acne solution. Effectively cures acne by killing harmful bacteria in the skin. Also helps to hydrate. When acne is not present blue light is cleansing and can prevent infection. Light Blue: Has a soothing effect on injured or broken skin. Helps reduce Allergies and their side effects while effectively strengthening and desensitising skin. Also reduces oil production. Red: Stimulates skin cells to excrete more collagen. This results in a firmer skin texture. Increase blood flow also occurs. This helps to smooth out scarring in conjunction with increased collagen production. It also penetrates the deepest into skin. Purple: Relaxes the parasympathetic nervous system resulting in calmness. Improves lymph metabolism and immune system which results in the skin healing faster. Removal of toxins also becomes faster. Its also very good for wound healing. Green: This is the light with the biggest anti-aging effects. Boosts collagen and elastin to smooth out wrinkles and fine lines. Good for promoting healing of wounds and getting rid of age spots and hyperpigmentation. Pink: Similar to purple light it has a calming effect and Stimulates lymphatic drainage. Has a much more detoxifying effect than purple light. It is also anti inflammatory so reduces puffiness and redness while increasing metabolism within the skin. As you can see, there are a variety of colours you can choose from, depending on your skin concerns. Remember there is no downtime from this treatment, and can be used in conjunction with your other skincare treatments to promote healing and sooth irritated skin. Last week we spoke about what an LED mask is and how light therapy works. Read the blog here.

What happens if you sleep with purple lights on?

How do different colors of light affect our ability to fall asleep? Scientists from Oxford University have the answer. Last year, the team tested green, blue, and violet light on mice. They found that green light produced rapid sleep onset -- between 1 and 3 minutes while blue and violet delayed sleep. When the mice were exposed to violet light, it took them 5-10 minutes to fall asleep. With blue light, the onset of sleep took between 16 and 19 minutes. The researchers believe this all has to do with a blue light-sensitive pigment called melanopsin. These light-detecting pigments operate in the retina and seem to affect how we react to different kinds of artificial light. There was also a connection between blue light and corticosterone, a stress hormone produced by the adrenal gland that causes arousal, stimulation and wakefulness. We could therefore predict that blue light will enhance the wake-promoting effects of light sources by elevating adrenal stress hormones. An obvious caveat of this study is that mice are nocturnal, but humans are not. So it very well could mean that green is not the magic color for us. Perhaps green light increases wakefulness rather than sleep. But if there's one thing this study teaches us, it’s that blue light should be avoided at night. Short-wavelength blue light (emitted from the sun, electronic devices, and fluorescent lighting) shifts the circadian clock, alerts the brain, and suppresses melatonin production. To help limit exposure, Eight Sleep’s Blue Wave Glasses act as a barrier to block the blue-light waves from affecting your sleep cycle. For better sleep, power down your devices at least an hour before bedtime.
