The Five Pillars That Construct A Good Life

Human mind is full of doubts and questions, and this is the ability which made human race advanced, technically sound, and superior on earth when it comes to the art of living, communicating, socializing, learning and overall growth! To be frank, there are much more questions nature has than the answers given by science. Within ourselves too, if we pay attention, we keep on asking questions. Our mind always remains doubtful. Thinking is good, but often leads to overthinking, which might lead to stress, tension, and fear. Amidst these bundle of questions, why do we lock this one question and never let it come out: “Who am I?”

I am sure this question came to your mind at least once in your childhood, and probably troubled you a lot. Since you couldn’t find the answer, you managed to bury it somewhere deep in graveyard of thoughts. Isn’t it true?

It is basic human nature, to find the simplest way out of any problem, and you did! You created a mindset (just like everyone else) that you were, randomly put into this earth, and to bury those thoughts more deep, you were given a school bag by which you were taught to follow orders and be obedient! Your creativity was killed by the pre-defined curriculum, and curiosity destroyed by the homeworks and assignment you were given. No! I am not against the education system, or the curriculum. I am against how weak your will was. Even the greatest of the scientists, artists, developers, entrepreneurs had to go through the same system, but they did not let it kill their creativity. They made the existing system a catalyst to speed up their learning process while working on the creative ideas they had simultaneously. The education that we get is very good for crafting our scientific and logical reasoning, but there are things that schools don’t teach you, these things you will have to learn on your own: How to think, how to be creative! How to face failure and still rise up to success How to stay humble after achieving your goals How to manage time Where to invest money Apart from these there are still infinitely many more things life can teach, you just have to be willing to learn. In the past couple of months, I have mentored many people, and had many tech meetups, there was one thing common that I said, wherever I went:

“Dare To Dream,

Dare To Try,

Dare To Fail,

Dare To Succeed”

— G. Kingsley Ward

Never let the curious child inside you die! If you are willing enough, my friend, you have got the power to change the world! Every person is born for a purpose, find your purpose! It might be tough to get out of that regular rational thinking and actually finding your individuality in the crowd, but you’ll never find yourself if the only thing you do is mimic others, and run in the race of whose destination you are unaware of, the race in which you are running just because you are told to, the race in which you are a mediocre, but you are not daring enough to challenge the status quo. One who can’t find self, desires other’s to see him, others to tell him his identity! But, he forgets that others too are just like him, constrained with the walls of self-preservation, and the chains of ignorance.

How can these people tell him his own identity?

Do think about what all I said!

The Five Pillars!

The Five Characteristic Traits

The five pillars that construct a good life. All the good traits can be jotted down to these 5 basic key characteristics in your nature, that can lead you to a good, healthy and a happy life :)

1. Education

The most important pillar in the construction of life is Education. To develop your self, you will first have to break the chains of ignorance that you are bound with.

There is a very important thing that I want to put emphasis on, education is not limited to the things you learn at school. As discussed above, there are many important lessons life will teach you only if you are willing to learn and improve. According to me, education is all about bringing out the good human and gentleman that is hidden inside you. In whatever phase of life you are, never run behind success or coming first. Being first in your race, or being a topper just means getting knowledge or skills that are just greater than others. Doesn’t it imply that the value is not given to how much knowledge one has gained, rather the value is given to the how much more knowledge one has when compared to others! It simply means that the desire of being successful converts the desire of getting knowledge and learning into a competition too. Always remember, no matter what competition it may be, winning is never final, you can be the winner of the race for once or twice, but that doesn’t mean that you will win every upcoming race. And then again, the ambitions inside you give birth to the feelings like dissatisfaction, jealousy, and struggle.

How about running behind excellence rather than success? How about being your own competitor in life?

If you do so, your areas of education, your knowledge, and your skills won’t be limited to what others do, you will have an extra ordinary satisfaction with whatever you do, and there will be no selfish personal interest behind your learning. Wouldn’t that lead to peace of mind, and eventually, success too?

Learn, explore, gain knowledge. Not to get ahead of others, but to make your soul content :)

2. Love

Love, compassion and selflessness are some of the most misunderstood words today! I can very often find people using words like love, and compassion, but seldom they actually mean it. “There is only one happiness in this life, to love and be loved” — George Sand Love, in reality is not something that happens between a couple, love has a much wider scope. I see people happily giving their whole life, everything they can, to some specific person or a small community, and confuse this with selflessness. In reality, this is as equally selfish as doing things for the interest of self. True meaning of selflessness is when you love every human being equally, not just the people who are close to you.

When you love someone, you think of his/her well being much more than your own, now just imagine a world where each and every person loves every other person. Wouldn’t earth become perfect?

As I said, the word “love” has a much wider scope than that feeling between two people. When you say the word love, all the corresponding feelings like compassion, selflessness, gratitude, sympathy, affection, fondness, endearment, attachment etc get included automatically. Be humble and love every living being equally, not only because doing so will make the world a better place but because doing so will make your heart and soul content, clean and things will feel much better than before. I know it is very difficult to put this in words, and much more difficult to understand, but yeah it is worth trying. Leave your personal interests for a day, and try to see the whole world as equal. You will notice the changes yourself :)

3. Calm and stable mind

Life is full of points where we have to take decisions. If we think carefully, we have made countless decisions since the time we took birth. Every moment is a moment of decision, ranging from decisions as small as choosing what to eat going up all the way to decisions related to our career, personal, and social life. “Calm mind brings inner strength and self-confidence, so that’s very important for good health” — Dalai Lama Each and every decision that we take affects our life in some way or the other. Everyone knows the important of taking the right decisions in life. Just imagine if Albert Einstein chose to be an artist rather than scientist, the world would have been so different than what we look at today. The modern advances in science that are a reality today, would just be a dream if that happened.

The decisions that we take today become the reason for joy or sorrow, happiness or misery tomorrow, and that too not only for ourselves but directly or indirectly, for many other people too. Our decisions affect lives of many people surrounding us. At every point of decision, mind becomes full of thoughts, a sort of war starts within your mind whether to make that decision or not! But no good decision can be taken from a mind that is not calm. A decision took for the purpose of making the mind calm will always lead to misery tomorrow, but decisions made from a calm mind will open the doors of happiness. Having a calm and stable mind is therefore, very important to make good decisions, and in turn have a good life.

4. Dedication

Finding a purpose in life is very important, but more important is how much dedicated you are towards that purpose. “If you have a dream, it’s definitely achievable through hard work, through dedication, sacrifice, everything.” — Carli Lloyd Hard work and dedication are the two prerequisites for achieving anything. Most of us want to be successful, want to do something big, but only a handful of people are actually able to put in the hardwork and dedication that is required!

There’s only one thing I want to say to those who quit their dreams just because of the hard work, time and dedication it will take: When you will look back to the time when you had the opportunity, you will always regret not putting enough hard work! And those who give up just because it will take too much time, time will pass anyhow, no matter you work on your dreams or not, so why not work on your dreams without thinking the amount of time it will take?

Always remember:

“In the mountain called life,

there is no royal road to summit”

5. Patience

This one question often crosses my mind, are desires the root of all sufferings? Or is it because of unfulfilled desires that we become sad? Many times it happens in life that you work very hard, you work day and night for something, but still you are not able to get it (initially).

The two most powerful warriors are patience and time.

If you ask yourself why do you work, you’ll get a simple answer that you want something, your desire for that “something” you want makes you work hard. But, getting that thing, is it really in your hands? No.

Sometimes, people work very hard to get something, and are not able achieve it, while some other person gets that very easily without working hard. The final result is never in our hands, so is it really correct putting our hard work just because we desire some results?

If victory makes you happy, then defeat will obviously make you sad!

How about we change the scenario a little bit. What if we remove our desires from the work that we do, what if we do our work considering it as our duty?

Just imagine how calm your mind will become, knowing that doing the work is duty, getting the results or not does not matter. All you will have is patience, all your greed will be gone away, and you will be able to work wholeheartedly! At this stage you know, only the work is important, if you put in good amount of dedication, results will follow :)
