Is Speaking Affirmations Out Loud More Effective?

There is no simple answer to this. Saying your affirmations out loud does trigger the pleasure and reward centre of your brain, giving you a little happiness boost. The auditory feedback of hearing the words also stimulates more senses than simply writing them. When we speak the words and hear them, we start forming auditory memories. The brain is more susceptible to believe what it hears repeated over and over again. So, the easy answer is yes, you should speak your affirmations out loud for maximum effectiveness. However, many people prefer writing for several reasons. Speaking your affirmations out loud might be awkward, especially at first. You’re probably not used to repeating positive affirmations to yourself out loud, and it might feel a bit strange. Many people also don’t have the luxury of privacy, and you might worry about your roommate, partner, or neighbour hearing you talk to yourself.

Affirmations are meant to plant little seeds of positive thinking into your brain, and to change your thinking patterns to more positive. The key to this is frequent practice, and while speaking might be more effective, what matters in the end is consistency. If speaking your affirmations out loud is not a possibility for you, but you really want to make your practice as effective as possible, you can try listening to audio tapes of affirmations.
