How to activate your Chakras?

1- Root Chakra ( Muladhara )-

It is the foundational Chakra located at the base of the spine. When in balance it promotes confidence, energy and independence. However, when in an imbalanced state, it is responsible for instability, fear, anxiety. Take consciousness of your entire bodily state into consideration and perform the following asana to activate Muladahra- Try sitting in a cross legged position on the floor with the tip of your index finger touching your thumb and take deep breaths focussing on your Muladhara Chant ‘LAM’ while you do so, until you feel settled, relaxed and rejuvenated.

2- Sacral Chakra ( Svadhishthana )

It is the second Chakra located at the lower belly and inner pelvis associated with kidneys, bladder and reproductive organs. When in balance it promotes positivity and satisfaction and in an imbalanced state it is responsible for infrequent sexual desires, irritability, and emotionally drowning.

To activate Svadhishthana perform the following asana-

Sit on your knees with your back straight, place your hands in your lap with palms facing upward while focussing on your Svadhishthana. While in this position take deep breaths and start chanting ‘VAM’ until you are completely relaxed and satisfied.

3- Solar Plexus Chakra ( Manipura )

It is located four fingerbreadths above the navel. It represents power and self confidence.When in imbalance, one might suffer through problems regarding digestion, liver and on an emotional level one might face depression, anger etc.

To activate your Manipura, perform the following asana-

4- Heart Chakra ( Anahata )

It is located in the centre of our chest, in the heart. It is significant of the unbiased and purest form of love, affection and care for ourselves and others. When out of balance, one might feel emotional disbalance such as anger, grief, anxiety, jealousy, moodiness.

To activate Anahata perform the following asana-

Sit on a chair with your eyes closed and legs crossed, touch the tips of your index finger and thumb with both hands. Take deep breaths slowly and in awareness of your Anahata, start chanting the word ‘YAM’, until you feel relaxed and happy.

5- Throat Chakra ( Vishuddha )

It is located at the base of the throat, at the centre of the larynx. It is significant in inspiration, expression, faith and communication. When in imbalance, one might feel quite, weak, timid and the inability to express thoughts.

To activate Vishuddha perform the following asana-

Sit on your knees with your back straight and eyes closed.

Take deep breaths slowly while focussing on your Vishuddha and chant the word ‘HAM’ repeatedly.

6- Third Eye Chakra ( Ajna )

It is located between the eyebrows at the centre of the head and is considered to be the pivotal point of concentration, consciousness and intuition. When in imbalance, it promotes egoism, fear of success, indecisiveness.

To activate Ajna perform the following asana-

Sit in a cross legged position with your back straight and eyes closed. Take deep breaths slowly while focussing on Ajna and chant the word ‘OM’ repeatedly.

7- Crown Chakra ( Sahasrara )

It is located at the top of our head. It is the epicentre of spirituality and enlightenment. When in imbalance, it promotes dullness, lethargy and destructive feelings.

To activate Sahasrara perform the following asana-

Sit cross legged on a chair with your back straight and eyes closed. Take deep breaths slowly while focussing on Sahasrara and chant the word ‘OM’ repeatedly.
