Spiders can carry with them dangerous venom and can attract other insects into your home as food as well. You can give yourself peace of mind and a safe living environment when you get spiders out of your space. Here are some ways you can reduce the number of spiders around your home.

1. Reduce Clutter Around Your Home

Clutter not only makes your home feel crowded, but it also provides the perfect space for spiders to turn your home into their home. Spiders like dusty areas where they know their nests and eggs will be left alone, which is why spiders like to hide under, behind, and inside of furniture and within clutter in your home. If you want to reduce the number of spiders in your home, cut down on clutter. Give every item in your home a place and a purpose. Donate or recycle items you don't use or need. Store items in your house inside of storage containers instead of just stacking items around your home. This will make it easier for you to clean around your home and keep spiders away.

2. Get Rid of Cobwebs Right Away

Next, when you see a cobweb in your house, don't let it sit for hours or even days before you remove it. As soon as you see a cobweb in your home, get rid of it. Use a duster to get rid of easy to reach spider webs. Use a broom or vacuum with a hose attachment to get rid of the spider web. Even if you don't see or kill the spider, spiders like to hang out where they will not be disturbed, and they will move if you continue to take down and disturb their webs. When you remove the webs, take a look at their locations and the amount of webs you find. This will help you locate the problem areas of your home and direct an exterminator to those areas.

3. Clean Your Home on a Schedule

Have a regular schedule for cleaning your home. When you vacuum, don’t just vacuum the visible floors, vacuum under and behind your furniture as well. If you have a vacuum with an attachment, use it to clean around your windows sills and around the floorboards as well, two areas where spiders congregate. Dust your home once a week. Spiders love dusty places; get rid of dust to eliminate spider habitats in your home.

4. Cut Down On Spider's Food Supply

Spiders have two things they need to survive — a supply of food and water. Keep in mind that spiders don't need much water to survive. They can survive off of the water droplets that bead-up on your windows or water that drips on your floor after you take a shower. You can cut down on water when you keep your windows clean and wipe up condensation them right away. Make sure water doesn't leak or drip anywhere in your home. Next, you need to get rid of insects that spiders feed on. An exterminator can help you reduce the number of insects that get into your home, but you can also install intact screens on all of your windows. Make sure your doors are well-sealed to keep out bugs and the spiders that might follow them. Crack down on areas and spaces where insects can make their way into your home. Have a professional treat the inside and outside of your home to get rid of any existing spiders right away and work to keep your home clean to keep spiders away. Give us a call at Paffy's Pest Control, and we can work with you to exterminate the spiders and any other insects and pests around your home in the Twin Cities area.
