When it comes to getting rid of bedbugs, one of the most common questions homeowners ask is: “Can bed bugs be completely eliminated?” The short answer is yes. However, it’s usually more complicated than that as there are several factors to bear in mind before you’re absolutely sure that the bedbugs are gone.

Can Bed Bugs Be Completely Eliminated

Can Bed Bugs Be Completely Eliminated?

In this post, we’ll address the issue of getting rid of bedbugs as well as the factors that determine whether or not you’re able to completely eliminate them.

The Size of The Original Infestation

It goes without saying that the larger an infestation, the more difficult it is to deal with. As bed bugs grow in number, they continue spreading from their original hiding places, which increases the number of locations that have to be treated, further complicating the treatment process. As such, the complete control of a larger infestation may require multiple treatments.

The Type of Treatment

There are several recommended treatments for dealing with bed bug infestations. Some treatment methods are more effective than others, so it’s important to choose the right one. For instance, if heat treatment such as thermal remediation is used to control an infestation, chances are that one treatment will be enough, but if bed bugs were reintroduced or some areas weren’t treated completely, retreatment may be necessary. In the case of an insecticide treatment, complete control of an infestation likely requires more than one application of insecticides.

The Thoroughness of Treatment

Bedbug infestations are complicated, which can make effective control a major challenge. If a treatment process doesn’t cover all the areas that have been infested, which can spread to various rooms in the house, then successfully controlling the infestation will require repeat treatments. This will increase the time between the beginning of the treatment process and when your home can be considered completely free of bugs.

The Type of Home

Unfortunately, living in multi-family housing can make it harder to deal with an infestation as there are high chances of a bedbug infestation. If you live in multi-family housing and suspect a bedbug infestation, you need to speak to the property manager/owner as soon as possible. During the inspection and treatment process, you want to make sure common areas (mailroom, lounges, laundry room, etc.), as well as adjacent units, are inspected for bed bugs as you may not be the only victim in the unit.

Monitoring

Monitoring is an essential part of checking whether you’ve dealt with an infestation completely. As you assess whether or not the infestation is completely under control, be sure to periodically check for live bed bugs or bites. It’s advisable to install mattress encasements on all mattresses and box springs in your home. Doing so helps to protect your furniture from infestations and makes it easier to inspect the bed for signs of an infestation.

Bottom Line

Can bed bugs be completely eliminated? As long as you follow the right procedures, you can completely eliminate the bedbugs in your home. If your home is treated for bedbugs by a professional exterminator like our team here at Absolute Pest Management and it’s been three weeks since the end of treatment with no signs of continuing infestation, then it’s likely the bed bug infestation is under control.

What happens when you eat a spoonful of cinnamon?

Cinnamon is made from tree bark and contains cellulose, a substance that doesn't break down easily. While tolerable in very small amounts, in larger concentrated amounts cinnamon can cause kids to gag, cough, choke, and have a burning sensation in the mouth, nose, and throat.

Is the "Cinnamon Challenge" Dangerous?

Cinnamon is a food, so why is the "cinnamon challenge" considered harmful?

- Kelly

You may have heard your kids talking about the so-called "cinnamon challenge," a prank that's often showcased in YouTube videos and is popular on the Web. It involves trying to eat a spoonful of ground cinnamon in 60 seconds without water. It may seem simple enough, but it's almost impossible to do. Not only that, it can be extremely dangerous and lead to long-term or life-threatening health problems. So it's important that kids know that the cinnamon challenge is no joke. Cinnamon is made from tree bark and contains cellulose, a substance that doesn't break down easily. While tolerable in very small amounts, in larger concentrated amounts cinnamon can cause kids to gag, cough, choke, and have a burning sensation in the mouth, nose, and throat. More serious reactions include vomiting, nosebleeds, and tightness in the chest. It's also possible for someone to inhale cinnamon while choking or gagging on it, which can cause inflammation in the lungs, a thickening of lung tissue, and scarring. This can lead to pneumonia, a collapsed lung, and/or permanent lung damage. And kids with asthma or other respiratory problems are at risk for severe breathing difficulties while attempting this challenge. Talk to your kids about the dangers of ingesting large amounts of cinnamon and encourage them to say "no" to this unfortunate trend. And encourage them to share the truth about this risky prank with any friends who might be tempted to try it.
